From a worker: Completely legitimate, friendly and family run farm. Season runs approx June – late September but can go earlier and later. Job entails either picking or packing strawberries. Usually packers are hired directly and pickers through a contractor. The first 4 packers hired at the start of the season will live onsite (cabin/caravan $110 p/w) after that extra people are hired as necessary as the weeks go on but must find their own accommodation and transport. Starts off slower with 4 days per week and builds up to 6 days when it hits peak season. Be prepared to work hard.

The work is easy enough but can take it’s toll on back/shoulders/feet as stood in same spot for full day. Stool is offered to alternate sitting and standing if desired. Minimum 3 breaks per day. 2 x 15 min & 1 x 30 min. We averaged $100-120 a day on piece rates.

Accommodation on site: A lovely little cabin, like a large caravan on the grounds of the farm. Can get cramped with 4 people living there, and there is no wifi but other than that no problems. Only the first 4 packers hired (female only) will be able to live here. Anyone hired after that must source their own accommodation and transport. Cost is $110 with no deposit.

Good legitimate business

5/ 5

Local shop is a 30 minute walk from the farm. For weekly food shopping, boss takes cabin staff in her car once per week to a bigger mall in Caboolture. Phone signal good, no wifi. Local activities: spend time around the farm, walk into town, drive to Caboolture/Brisbane or even Gold Coast (if you have a car) and climb the glass house mountains.
