Great place to work (Warragul site)
Flavorite is a great, fair working place. The supervisors are friendly and helpful, the work is incredibly easy (just boring but what else can you ask for in a farm job?), you are paid via payroll and bank transfer they follow the government’s fair wages rights so pay award rates.
I was given a good amount of work, but it’s casual work so can be subject to change.
They put a lot on emphasis on keeping the glasshouses sanitary (ie sanitary hand and foot baths), emphasise on wearing sunscreen and protective clothing, and they always remind you to let your supervisors know if you are feeling unwell, tired, or hurt yourself.
I was working in a tomato, capsicum, and cucumber glasshouse. I did “crop work” so maintaining the plants. Other jobs on the farm included picking the fruits, or packing in a warehouse. You’re working in a very modern glasshouse so safe working conditions. Also dry, you’re not affected by rain. However just humid or hot most of the time.
Once you receive the job offer, they send you an email with an accommodation option, which is a group of 5 or 6 houses owned by a landlord who is affiliated with the farm. The houses are modern and new, and you share with 5 other people (3 bedrooms, 2 people in one room). There’s a large communal space with a modern kitchen, living room area, and dining table. Its very close to the farm and the town centre by car only.
There are other private landlords scattered around Warragul where you can find even cheaper rent, however they don’t advertise anywhere and the only way you’ll find them is by asking other workers.
You will often find someone who drives in the house that you live in, and they usually charge you $1 per trip. There are no other means of transport apart from taxi.
(NB Please avoid an Indian lady called “Maddie” or “Mattie” (can’t remember her name but it started with an M). She scammed many people including myself, eg sending pictures of a different, nicer looking accommodation, really terrible living conditions, or withholding deposits. )
