Award rates and on-site accommodation but need a car

4/ 5

We were cutting and planting leafy vegetables.
had to ask for further information which was not provided in regards to rent deduction and their “time-banking” system.

Most of the staff were friendly but the Australian supervisor abused the rest of the workers. There was only 1 (filthy) portaloo provided which was a long way from the fields. Most male workers went to the toilet in the field.Paid award rate and we worked 8 hour days, five days a week. with two breaks.

Some backpackers were required to drive the tractors without training or previous experience. My partner saw a brown snake and we weren’t briefed on the possibility of snakes or other dangerous animals.

Accommodation was provided in a share house at $180 per couple. Modern house with basic kitchen equipment. The room was basic with a built-in wardrobe and ceiling fan. We had a mattress on the floor as there was no double bed provided, other backpackers used an air mattress. Single beds were provided in the single rooms.

Own transport required: There was a small town with a shopping mall and pubs 5 minutes drive away, and work was 20 minutes away.
There are waterfalls close by.
