We have a homely style friendly atmosphere with modern facilities.

About Home Hill

Home Hill, a rural town, is 75 km south-east of central Townsville and 11 km from Ayr. It is situated south of the Burdekin River on the Lower Burdekin delta. It is the hub for a number of farms that produce sugar cane, egg plant, melon, capsicum and mango.

The town provides a variety of comforts including an IGA supermarket, petrol stations, pubs, cafes and medical services.

Home Hill's Home from Home

5/ 5

Run by an amazing older couple who create a safe. comfortable atmosphere. They don’t advertise non-existent work, no waiting lists or anything like that, and they have good relations with local farmers. They’re newly opened and they shared meals with us and generally made us feel at home. Paul bought us scones in the morning and was always interested and involved with us.

All hostels should be like this!

5/ 5

The people running this hostel are nice and human and warm; everyone should be able to live in working hostels like this with good people taking care of us. They are honest and they live there with us and share meals all together. They tell you if they have no job, there are no waiting lists or anything like that. Its just a couple around their 60’s and they are amazing. Paul brought us scones in the morning and was always involved with us.

A place to call HOME!

5/ 5

This place is Paul and Barbara’s home, and I certainly felt at home myself. This was the first working “hostel” (which I would say is a working house… people there are amazing) that didn’t have waiting lists, didn’t lie about the amount of job, and where they actually try to get you three months with the same employer. I personally failed my farm work because it was too much, and I was warmly supported by both barbara and paul, and all the people there. They have two beautiful dogs, cars available, lifts to work, and shared meals. Like Saturday all together sharing fresh pasta, dancing and having fun, like a family. THIS is what our working holiday experience should be. Thank you guys, I’ll forever have a home in Home Hill.

Very clean

2/ 5

would have rated 5 stars for the cleanliness of the hostel and the facilities, the hostel is really nice and clean, the other backpackers were amazing people, but it is not a working hostel. I stayed for 1 and a half month, I worked only 9 days. I ended up working by myself on a solar farm, and when Paul, the owner, finded me another casual job, he told me that I had to quit to my job on the solar farm to carry out his work, which I rejected, because of this he told me that I had to leave the hostel. I fully understand the concept of working hostel, but not a mandatory request to give up my work for their own interest. Most of the people in the hostel already have work by themselves, so if you want to go there try to call other hostels and investigate about the season to find out if there are works
