There are also iconic beaches within a ten minute drive west of the town, while a drive to the east will see you heading into the hill ranges. South will see you reaching the coast in under an hour and in the right time of year the chance to see whales as they nurture calves and make the long slow journey to colder waters.  McLaren’s nearest neighbour is Willunga – in itself a gourmet destination with a regular Saturday Farmer’s market. Several heritage trails share the two towns, with the Shiraz trail providing a safe cycling and walking path which connects the two places.

On the whole a really good place to do your farm work – lots of perks!

4/ 5

All hostel guests were brilliant and all became like family. Good location, plenty amenities and near the beach. Owner and dirty kitchen only downsides. Use of van for $5 a day, free at weekends.

Five minutes walk to Coles, Pharmacies, bottle shop, reject shop, launderette, chip shop, restaurants, wineries, indian takeaway, gym, doctor..

Plenty to do in free time: Cycle routes, winery tours, beaches, days in the city, community events e.g. Sunday live music sessions, shopping.

Hostel lay on TV, XBox, Netflix, free use of vans at weekends.

Waste of time and energy

1/ 5

I kept getting told in three days you will have work, on thursday you will have work, on monday the work will start. And they told me it would be pretty much full time once the grape season start. They lie for weeks about when the season starts just to keep people staying at the hostel. When the season finally did start, I got some weeks with just one or two work days. Some weeks with three and four. All in all, I definitely lost money from staying at this place. Also the owner and the manager there are really rude. If you have any concern, you will get yelled at to leave. They really do not care about you as a person.
